Why we started PsicoDiversa

PsicoDiversa comes from putting together two paths that complement each other: Laura’s, centered on trauma and addictions, and María Zuleica’s, who came to work as a psychologist after years in social work. We both wanted the same kind of space: a therapeutic refuge where confidentiality, humanity and respect are non-negotiable.

We start from a simple idea: each person is more than their symptoms. That is why the center is specialized in emotional and relational dependency and in addictions, and why we do not treat dependency as a “vice” but as a way of managing deep pain. That outlook changes the whole job: before asking anyone to let go of anything, we try to understand what part it plays.

We know how difficult it is to ask for help. People who write to us have usually been going over it for a while. Our work starts right there: a safe, non-judgmental space where your process is respected and built upon the therapeutic relationship. We do not believe in quick fixes; we prefer sustained and honest processes.

Trauma and addictions · EMDR and IFS

Laura graduated in Psychology from the University of Málaga and specialized in Health Psychology at the International University of La Rioja. She understands anxiety, unresolved pain or addictive behaviors as responses to deep experiences, so her work focuses on tracing that origin before touching the symptom.

She is trained in two of the models we use most at the center: EMDR, which helps process traumatic memories that continue to cause distress in the present, and IFS, a respectful model for understanding and harmonizing the “parts” of you that come into conflict. She sees clients at our practice in Málaga, in Spanish and in English, with the international community of the Costa del Sol particularly in mind.

Contextual therapies (ACT, FAP and DBT) · addictions and emotional dependency

Before working as a psychologist, María Zuleica spent seven years as a social worker with people in situations of exclusion and extreme vulnerability. From those years she keeps a conviction that runs through her whole way of working: even in the most difficult moments, every person holds an inner strength of their own.

She specialized in third-wave contextual therapies: ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and also FAP and DBT, and that outlook is part of the center’s DNA. Her starting point: this is not about “fixing” anyone, because nobody is broken; it is about building a life that truly feels like your own. Outside the practice, she signs as “Zule” on the podcast.

Two profiles that complement each other

Laura runs the practice and brings the in-depth work with trauma and emotional regulation; María Zuleica’s contextual outlook underpins the center’s approach. Day to day we provide individual, group and family therapy, and we adapt each intervention to the person: some people need only one of those pieces and some combine several as the process goes on. You can see all the services at the center. In how we work we explain the models without jargon.

We mainly support processes of emotional dependency, relationships that keep repeating themselves, and compulsive behaviors such as the phone, shopping, work or food. Also anxiety, depression or trauma in individual therapy, and groups for anxiety, depression, emotional dependency and emotional regulation.

What we do outside the practice

The social side of PsicoDiversa is our doing too. We founded the PsicoDiversa Association, a non-profit organization that organizes free talks in schools in the province of Málaga, and together we host the “En Modo Psi” podcast, where we talk about mental health with guests. We tell you the whole story on the association page.

Frequently asked questions

Who would I see?

You will be supported by Laura Nhate, who runs the center’s practice, in person and online. In the first assessment interview we listen to your case and agree with you how to start and at what pace. María Zuleica’s contextual outlook is still there in how we work.

Do you offer sessions in English?

Yes: Laura sees clients in both Spanish and English, with the international community of the Costa del Sol particularly in mind. You can write your first message in whichever language you feel most comfortable in.

Can I do therapy online?

Yes. Laura sees people in person in Málaga and also in online sessions, and that is how she supports processes of emotional dependency and addictions for people all over Spain. If online suits you better because of your hours, the distance or any other reason, tell us and we will look at the option that fits your case best.

What if I start and I do not feel comfortable?

You tell us, and honestly, nothing happens. Feeling at ease with your psychologist is part of the work too, and it sometimes takes a few sessions to get there. If something does not fit we talk about it: the approach can be adjusted, a change within the center can be considered or, if we are not your place, we can tell you so clearly and help you look for an alternative. We would rather be that honest than have you keep coming out of obligation.

How much does a session cost?

An individual session costs €70, a couples session €100, a family therapy session €120 and a group session €45 per person. Prices are the same in person and online, and asking commits you to nothing.
