Looking for a psychologist is not easy

If you are looking for a psychologist in Málaga, chances are you have been going over it for a while: sleeping worse, arguing more, noticing that your mood is not lifting or that your head will not go quiet for a minute. Making the decision usually takes weeks, sometimes months. Asking for help with something emotional is still harder than asking for it for a toothache, and it should not be.

You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis or with your ideas in order. Telling us what is going on, in your own words, is enough. Putting a name to it, if it has one, is our job, and it is done in session, without rushing.

We see adults in individual sessions, in person at our practice in Carretera de Cádiz or online if that suits you better.

What we work with in individual therapy

Everyone arrives with something different. These are the most common reasons people come to us:

Anxiety

In session we look at what sets off your anxiety, what keeps it going and why that alarm system has ended up ringing all day long. We work on emotional regulation with concrete tools, mainly from contextual therapies (ACT), so that anxiety stops organizing your life.

Depression

Therapy for depression goes step by step: understanding what has happened, picking up routines and bonds that had fallen away, and choosing for yourself again. When everything weighs and even small things are hard, “trying harder” is not a plan; we support that process properly, without slogans off a coffee mug.

OCD

We work with obsessive-compulsive disorder using exposure techniques and emotional support tailored to each individual case. Exposure is the best-supported technique for OCD; we apply it at a pace agreed with you, never forced.

Trauma

Some experiences stay recorded and go on hurting years later, even when nothing “shows” from the outside. To process them we use EMDR, a scientifically supported technique that works on traumatic memories through bilateral stimulation, and IFS, a model that gives a voice to the wounded parts carrying that pain.

Insomnia

When the light goes off, everything else switches on: the worry, the thoughts that found no room during the day, the habits that settled in months ago. That is usually where the real problem sits, rather than in sleep itself, and that is exactly what we work on alongside the insomnia.

Don’t see your situation on this list? Tell us anyway and we will see whether we can help; and if we are not the right place, we will say so just as clearly. Write to us.

Our specialty: emotional dependency and bonds

We are, above all, a center specialized in emotional dependency and compulsive bonds: relationships that tie you down, difficulty being without the other person, a constant need for approval. We also work with compulsive behaviors that bring immediate relief (the phone and social media, shopping, sex, work or food) when they become the only way to calm down.

We understand these behaviors “not as a ‘vice,’ but as a way of managing deep pain.” “Just stopping” falls short: we look at what emptiness that behavior is trying to fill, and we work on it at the root.

If you recognize yourself in any of this, we go into it in depth on emotional dependency therapy in Málaga and on therapy for addictions.

How we work

We use contextual therapies (ACT, FAP and DBT), EMDR and IFS: models with a scientific basis, chosen according to what each person needs and not the other way around. Each process adapts to your situation, your context and your pace, far from an assembly-line protocol.

The individual session is the base. When it helps, we combine it with group therapy in Málaga (groups for anxiety, depression and emotional regulation). In how we work we explain each approach calmly.

The center: Carretera de Cádiz, Málaga

The practice is at C. Mendoza, 6, dcha (Carretera de Cádiz area), 29002 Málaga. It is a space with armchairs, plants and warm light — closer to a living room than to a clinic — designed to make talking a little easier. What is said in session stays in session: we are bound by professional confidentiality, and the form on this site travels encrypted.

Frequently asked questions

Do you see people in person and online?

Yes. The practice is at C. Mendoza, 6, dcha, in the Carretera de Cádiz area (Málaga). If you cannot travel, or you live elsewhere, we hold online sessions: the same work as at the practice, with the same psychologist and the same confidentiality.

Who will see me?

It depends on what brings you here and on the schedule. In that first contact you tell us briefly what you are looking for and we point you in the right direction. You will be seen by Laura Nhate, who also sees clients in English. María Zuleica’s contextual outlook (ACT) is part of how we work.

What approach do you use?

Contextual therapies (ACT, FAP and DBT), EMDR and IFS, depending on the case. These are models with a scientific basis. In practice that means you will not get a standard script: first we understand what is happening to you and what it is for, and from there we choose how to work with it. We explain it in more depth in how we work.

How do I book an appointment and what happens next?

Message us on WhatsApp at 600 21 57 83, call us, or leave your details in the form. A real person reads your message — not an answering machine. That first contact commits you to nothing: if you then decide not to start, that is fine.

Is it confidential?

Yes. We are bound by professional confidentiality, and whatever you work on in session does not leave the room. The data you send us through the form is stored encrypted, is not shared with third parties, and we only use it to reply to you. You can read the detail in the privacy policy.

How much does a session cost?

An individual session costs €70, whether in person or online. If you would rather start in a group, a group therapy session costs €45 per person. You will find the full price list on our services page, and asking commits you to nothing.
